MEHHH….I will keep it short and sweet. There is nothing culinarily delightful about English Breakfast anyway but the stuff we bought yesterday just tasted “bargain”. It all looks like an Eastern European copycat of the juicy sausages you would have at a London pub, crumbly and bloody tasting ‘bloodpudding’ you would find at the Cotswolds. Even the bacon, as pretty as it was, wasn’t sweet of super meaty and “bacony” as bacon should be. Everything was bland and I hated it all. Fuck off, cheap counterfeit meat.

Sadly we bought a lot of this stuff but none will go to waste, of course.

Today I realized my beloved 10 year old Thinkpad X201 has a SIM slot and a GPS. I guess I have a full day ahead of visiting my cell store for a cheap SIM (the old style one, hope they have) and tinkering. This machine runs a few operating systems in VMs (Ubuntu is host) so testing some GPS and communication software will be fun.

Tetherless data and GPS 10 years ago would have been a cool-as-fuck tech to have.

Did I tell you my 201 is practically brand new with just a few cycles on the original battery? Still has the clear stickers all over. How is that possible, Matthew has no clue.

It’s crazy fast, too.

All of the necessary DNS changes have been made. The VPS is up and updated and all the security software is installed and, mostly, configured.

I am using with ModSecurity with OWASP ModSecurity Core Rule Set (plus a few other little hacks with the .htaccess file). SMTP transport is ready to roll, too. Sticking with “sendinblue”. They work well, even with their free tier.

Now onto captcha and caching.

Then the daunting task of shuttling almost 100GB of data from the other server.

chewyland.com is moving onto its own self managed cloud server (VPS) over the coming days so please don’t mind the interruptions. I have been planning this for years (this blog is more than 13 years old) and it’s finally time. If you are interested, I will be posting some technical details soon. I am also planning on enabling comments and perhaps a forum.

I will be able to host higher quality images and video and decrease load times. I am also testing the site on cutting edge release of Ubuntu and PHP 8.
